Xero Reset & Cleanup Intensive
A done-for-you Xero reset for photographers, designers, coaches, and consultants who are ready to hand off the financial chaos and get back to their work.
You’re great at what you do.
Your books should reflect that.
If you’re a self-employed creative or service provider, there’s a good chance your books look something like this:
- a year of transactions you meant to categorize,
- a Xero setup that was never quite right, and
- a vague sense of dread every time tax season rolls around.
You’re not bad at running a business. You’re just running it without the financial foundation it needs – and that gap gets more expensive the longer it stays open.
The Xero Reset & Cleanup Intensive is a done-for-you service that fixes this in one focused week.
I log into your Xero account, clean up to 12 months of books, rebuild your system correctly for a service business, and hand you back financials you can actually trust.
Financials that you can handoff to your tax preparer with confidence.
No long onboarding. No back-and-forth calls. Completely async – you share access, I do the work.
Only 2 slots available per month. Currently accepting applications for May/June.
What’s included
Everything you need.
Nothing you don’t.
One focused week of done-for-you work – no ongoing commitment required, no course to sit through, no calls to schedule.
Here’s everything that’s included in the Xero Reset & Cleanup Intensive:
12 Months of Bookkeeping
Up to one year of historical transactions categorized, reconciled, and accurate – so your numbers actually reflect your business.
Xero System Restructure
Your chart of accounts, settings, and structure set up correctly for a service-based business. Not just patched – properly rebuilt from the ground up.
CPA-Level Financial Review
A full review of your P&L and balance sheet to confirm accuracy before your books go to your tax preparer. Rigorous eyes on your numbers, not just a surface-level check.
Maintenance Guidance
A walkthrough of your new system so you – or your bookkeeper – can keep it clean going forward without starting from scratch again next year.
60 Days of Cents Club Access
Two months of CPA-level support, async Q&A, and community access so the momentum you built doesn’t stall the moment the intensive ends.
How it works
Simple, async, and built around your schedule.
You hand things over. I do the work. Most clients are surprised by how little is required from them.

Your guide through the numbers
Meet Joyce

Joyce M. Washington – Founder, The Common Cents
I’ve spent years working inside small accounting firms and corporate accounting departments – and I kept seeing the same thing…
Smart, capable business owners making decisions without accurate financial information.
Not because they didn’t care, but because nobody had ever set their books up properly in the first place.
That’s what The Common Cents is built to fix.
I work exclusively in Xero with self-employed creatives and service providers – getting their financial foundation right so they can stop guessing and start making decisions with confidence.
I have a CPA background and bring that level of rigor to every client engagement – whether it’s a one-week intensive or ongoing monthly bookkeeping.
Is this right for you?
This works best when the fit is right.
I’d rather you know upfront whether this is the right move than find out mid-engagement. Here’s how to tell.
A good fit if you are…
✓ A self-employed creative or service provider — photographer, designer, coach, or consultant
✓ Already using Xero, or open to switching from QBO
✓ Behind on your books and need them clean before tax season
✓ Ready to hand over Xero access and let someone else handle it
✓ A service business with one entity and straightforward finances
Not the right fit if…
– You need tax preparation (this is bookkeeping only)
– You’re more than 12 months behind — reach out and we’ll talk options
– Your business has complex payroll or multiple entities
– You’re not ready to move quickly or share access
Frequently asked questions
Answers to what you’re probably already thinking.
This is a significant investment. Is it really Worth it?
Think about what messy books actually cost you – in stress, in time spent guessing at your numbers, in what you might overpay (or underpay) at tax time because nothing is accurate. One missed deduction or a penalty from inaccurate filing can easily exceed this investment. What you’re getting isn’t just clean books for one year – it’s a Xero system rebuilt correctly by a CPA-trained professional, so you’re not starting from scratch again next year. For most clients, this pays for itself quickly.
Can I just clean up my own books?
You absolutely can – and if you love that kind of work, you probably should. But most creatives I talk to have been meaning to do it for months. The problem isn’t capability, it’s time, energy, and knowing exactly what “done correctly” looks like inside Xero. If DIY cleanup has been on your list for a while and it keeps not happening, that’s a sign it’s worth handing off.
I'm not sure my books are messy enough to need this.
If you’re not 100% confident your books are accurate and your Xero is set up correctly for your business – this is for you. “Messy” doesn’t always mean total chaos. Sometimes it’s uncategorized transactions, a chart of accounts that doesn’t make sense, or financials that technically exist but don’t tell you anything useful. If you’d be nervous handing your books to your tax preparer today, that’s your answer.
What if I’m way too far behind // more than 12 months?
In some cases it’s still manageable; in others, a different scope and investment may make more sense. Either way, you won’t be left without options.
What this intensive is not designed for is multi-year forensic reconstruction or highly complex accounts. If that’s you, I’ll tell you upfront.
I use QuickBooks Online, not Xero. Can you still help me?
What do you need from me to to get started?
Not much, and nothing complicated. Once you’re booked, you’ll give me access to your Xero account and share any supporting documents I might need (like bank statements if your feeds aren’t connected). The whole process is designed to be async – meaning you hand things over and I do the work, without a lot of back-and-forth interrupting your week. You’ll hear from me if I have questions, but this isn’t a collaborative project where you need to be available constantly.
How long does it actually take?
Your time investment is minimal: filling out a short application, granting Xero access, and being available for any quick clarifying questions.
Most clients are surprised by how hands-off it is on their end.
What happens after the intensive is done?
You’ll also get 60 days of complimentary access to the Cents Club – where you can ask questions, attend monthly office hours, and make sure the momentum sticks.
After that, some clients move into ongoing bookkeeping with me, some manage it themselves with the Cents Club, and some fly solo.
There’s no pressure either way – we’ll figure out what makes sense for you at the end of your week.
Do you have an active CPA license?
- I have all of the education, training, and professional experience of a CPA – I simply don’t hold an active license at this time.
- I’m not offering audit, attestation, or tax preparation services, which are the areas that require an active license.
Bookkeeping, Xero system setup, and financial review are all within scope and delivered with the same rigor and attention to detail you’d expect from a CPA-trained professional.
If you have specific questions about what this means for your engagement, I’m happy to talk it through before you apply.
